We are delighted that the Budget yesterday has guaranteed an increase in funding to UK Sport. The uplift, which is equivalent to 10%, will see £344m invested over the next Olympic cycle.
While we do not yet know how this will be divided, this is great news for sport in this country.
Sally Munday, CEO of UK Sport said; “The Government’s commitment to a multi-year investment of £344 million over the next four year cycle in the UK’s Olympic and Paralympic sports is incredibly welcome.
“We are confident that the amount announced, alongside the excellent support provided by The National Lottery, will enable British athletes to pursue their ambitions at Milan Cortina 2026, LA 2028, and beyond. It means that Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK can deliver more extraordinary sporting moments like we proudly witnessed at the recent Paris Games”
Georgie Harland, modern pentathlon medallist at the Athens 2024 Games and Performance Director of Pentathlon GB said “This is fantastic news, I know first hand how important this renewed investment into the UK Sport programme is for developing athletes for future Olympic success.
We will continue to work closely with UK Sport on finalising our own investment ahead of the LA cycle”.
