Pentathlon GB Signs Strategic Alliance with British Obstacle Sports

Pentathlon GB has signed a strategic alliance with British Obstacle Sports, the national governing body for obstacle course racing (OCR), and ninja. This follows obstacle racing’s inclusion in the modern pentathlon competition at the Olympic Games, starting with LA 2028.

The alliance, which will see British Obstacle Sports advise PGB on all aspects of obstacle racing, is for an initial two years. British Obstacle Sports will support PGB on the OCR sprint format, promote OCR events, and act as advisors as we move into the next Olympic cycle. As part of the strategic alliance, there will also be a partnership on developing a youth pathway and a talent development programme for obstacle sports.

Pentathlon GB and British Obstacle Sports have agreed to a national level review process in the event that pentathlon and obstacle sports merge internationally. The review will assess if there is merit in merging in the UK, with any recommendations requiring the approval of our respective memberships.

Becky Neal, Head of OCR at British Obstacle Sports, said, “This agreement outlines our commitment to developing all forms of obstacle sports. We look forward to continuing our partnership with PGB, growing the OCR sprint format, and supporting future Olympians.”

Trafford Wilson, CEO of Pentathlon GB, commented, “With the alteration of the Pentathlon competition for LA 2028, we are determined to ensure our athletes can prepare in the best way possible. This strategic alliance enables Pentathlon GB and British Obstacle Sports to align resources to support the growth and development of OCR into the future. We look forward to working with the British Obstacle Sports team moving forward.”
