Mike Townley joins the Pentathlon GB board

Mike Townley has joined the Pentathlon GB board of directors. He will act as Chair of the Governance and Risk Committee as well as Safeguarding lead.

Mike is a leading sport lawyer with over 30 years’ industry experience. Mike has worked with many NGBs over the years, along with various International Federations. Mike worked with the Sports Councils during the mid/late 1990s to help set up the lottery investment programs into sport, in particular the World Class Performance model.

Mike spent almost 10 years working with the International Paralympic Committee and was lead lawyer at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Mike commented: “I’m delighted to join the Pentathlon GB Board. Governance is hugely important to our ability to access Sport Council funding. It’s an exciting time for the sport as it enters the first Olympic cycle with OCR in place of equestrian; a dramatic change of format but one that I believe opens up many opportunities.

“I come from a multi-sport background having competed in triathlons from the sport’s inception in the mid-1980s. I really appreciate the challenge of different sport disciplines being combined. Great Britain has a rich history in the sport, and it’s an honour to hopefully help us continue this into a new era for one of the foundational Olympic Games sports.”
