Join The Friendly Sport - Be A Part of the Pentathlon GB Volunteer Team Tuesday, 16th Jun 2015 Eleanor Guest

Pentathlon GB is the national governing body for the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon which involves five disciplines; fencing, swimming, riding, running and shooting.  We are a passionate and enthusiastic team, committed to raising the profile of the Modern Pentathlon and with major ambitions to grow the sport at grassroots level: to help us do this we are looking to recruit Volunteer Local Coordinators and Volunteer Mentors to help us put our new volunteer strategy into action.

Volunteer Mentors

We are looking to recruit a team of Volunteer Mentors who have modern pentathlon technical knowledge and event expertise.  As volunteers progress in the sport they require someone to lend them a hand and show them the ropes. Often people do this informally and without knowing they are providing mentoring. For the sport to grow and have a long term future we need to share and spread this technical expertise and help our volunteers become the experts of the future.

You can find out more about this role at the job description here.

Volunteer Local Coordinators

We would like to recruit a team of nine Volunteer Local Coordinators to help recruit, develop, coordinate and manage volunteers at regional and grass roots level.  This new role acting as Volunteer Local Coordinator is vital for the future growth and success of the sport.

You can find out more about this role at the job description here.

Could this be you?

Benefits to volunteering in these roles:

  • The altruistic benefit of helping others through sport.
  • Great social interaction and being part of a supportive and diverse team.
  • A new experience of volunteering – helping other volunteers.
  • Developing new skills including interpersonal skills, and managing and co-ordinating people.
  • Attending a training briefing with likeminded people with expenses paid. Save the date – 25 July 2015 at a central location.
  • CV building and gaining sports development or volunteer development related experience.
  • Raised profile and an acknowledged contribution in the organisation.

Some or our current volunteers have said 'Pentathlon events are a breath of fresh air', 'I've made lots of new friends from all over the UK bu volunteering with Pentathlon GB' and 'I get such a diverse experience at your events'.

If you would like to know more about the Volunteer Mentor role please contact Sue Hyde, National Competitions and Events Manager sue.hyde@pentathlongb.org and for the Volunteer Local Coordinator please contact Rebecca Gibson, National Development Manager rebecca.gibson@pentathlongb.org

If you’re keen to join the team then please e-mail your CV along with a covering note telling us which role you are keen to fulfil and why to eleanor.guest@pentathlongb.org by Tuesday 30 June 2015.

British Biathle Team Dominate in Dubai Saturday, 14th Feb 2015 Howard Jones GB Team at the Atlantis

Hot temperatures and a last minute change of venue to the Atlantis Hotel on Dubai's Palm did not deter the British Team at the first Biathle World Tour of 2015.

The event held on the Atlantis's Nasima Beach in front of the famous Aquaventure Water Park saw teams from Germany, Italy, South Africa and the host United Arab Emirates as well as ourselves. The GB team were so dominent that no individual finished lower than second position.

The team's first involvement was in the Youth D races and there were immmediately emphatic wins for both Rebecca Wren and Kieron Mutch with Josh Dreelan finishing second.

Sophie Mutch's very impressive swim brought her through the field to finish second in the Youth C Girls race. Kizzie Price showed the rest the way with an easy win in the Youth B Girls race and Jessica Sutton took a deserved second place. Not to be outdone, Jamie Price matched his sister's performance with a win in the Youth A race.

James Greenwell overcame the shock of being lead into transition in the Masters A race with a masterly swim which brought him back into transition with a clear half a minute lead, enough to ensure victory by the end of the race. Andy Price gained second in the Masters B race and Mary and Peter Colett won their masters C and D races respectiveley.

The final events, the seniors, saw victory for Rachel Jones and a silver for Gareth Allen. So 8 winners and 5 runners up - a spectacularly good performance from the team who, imediately following the presentation went into the adjacent water park to relax and rest on their laurels for the remainder of the day.

The next World Tour event is in Italy on 7th June.
