2018 Youth Olympic Games Selection Process Update
Following the UIPMs clarification of the qualification system for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, 1 – 12 August, please find the Pentathlon GB Youth Team Selection Amendment addressing the team selection process below. This is section 15 of the 2017 Pentathlon GB Selection Policy.
15. 2018 Youth Olympic Games: Buenos Aires - Argentina, 1st – 12th October 2018
15.1 Team selection for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games
15.1.1 The Youth Olympic Games competition format consists of the Swimming, Fencing and Laser Run event disciplines. To be eligible to participate in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, athletes must have been born between the 1st of January 2000 and the 31st of December 2003.
15.1.2 The maximum qualification quota is one male athlete and one female athlete per National Olympic Committee.

15.2 Youth 2018 Olympic Games Qualifying Competitions
1. Pentathlon GB Youth Team Selection Competition, 8 – 9 July 2017 at Hartpury Academy, for the European Continental Qualification Competition, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, 10 – 13 August 2017.
2. European Continental Qualification Competition, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, 10 – 13 August 2017.
3. 2018 World Youth A Championships, Date & Location TBC.
15.3 Selection for the European Continental Qualification Competition, Caldas da Rainha, 10 – 13 August 2017
15.3.1 Subject to satisfying the Performance Team as to their eligibility in accordance with paragraphs 2 and 4.4 of the 2017 Pentathlon GB Team Selection Policy and as to their current form and fitness, the top 3 placed Athletes in both genders in the Pentathlon GB Youth Team Selection Competition, 8 – 9 July 2017 at Hartpury Academy, will become eligible for selection for the European Continental Qualification Competition, Caldas da Rainha, 10 – 13 August 2017.
15.3.2 The Performance Team may select an additional team member with world-class potential against the following criteria: current form, fitness, attitude, an ability to raise performance, future potential to achieve Pentathlon GB targets and past performance, including consistency. A maximum of one additional entry per gender may be made at the discretion of the Performance Team based on the circumstances known to them. It is the responsibility of athletes to bring to the attention of the Pentathlon GB Pathway Manager any circumstance they feel may be relevant.
15.3.3 It will be compulsory for confirmed European Continental Qualification Competition Team members to attend any pre-competition training camp, (and undertake the full schedule/programme as set by the Performance Team) competitions and briefings, details of which will be notified to selected team members. Failure to attend without a reasonable explanation acceptable to the Performance Director will result in de-selection from the team.
15.4 The Pentathlon GB 2018 Youth Selection Policy issued in November 2017 contains the selection process for the 2018 World U/19 Championships.
N.B. Please note that Appendix A & Appendix D in the 2017 Team Selection Policy have been amended. All tables in these sections have now been updated with new swimming discipline points.
