Getting Involved as an Athlete
Why get involved?
As a multi-discipline sport, modern pentathlon is an excellent challenge for both the mind and body. By training in more than one discipline you will be able to test yourself, improve your health and fitness and learn new skills, all whilst meeting new people and having fun at clubs and competitions around the country.
You don't need any experience to go along to training sessions; you can take part at the level that is right for you. Most people who take part in training and competitions do so alongside their school or job, so modern pentathlon is a sport for everyone.
How can I get involved?
You can get involved from any background, whether it's
swimming or riding, there's a place for you. You can train in one or all five
of the disciplines, add to your existing skills or start from scratch.
What can I take part in?
You can take part in training sessions for any of the five disciplines or take part in one of our many competitions. You can start off just running and swimming in the Biathle or modern biathlon, move to swimming, running and shooting in the modern triathlon, add on fencing for the modern tetrathlon with just the riding to go for the full modern pentathlon. To find out what's going on near you take a look at the training and competitions calendar.
Who can take part?
Pentathlon GB encourages competitors of all ages and abilities to participate, in any number of disciplines, and most of all to have fun. There are no age restrictions, with clubs supporting athletes of all ages and competitions held for both the youngest and oldest athletes!
You do not need experience or to participate in all the disciplines. We encourage members to improve their own previous best scores and therefore the sport provides a very powerful sense of self-development and motivation.
Do I need to be a member?
For many activities you will need to become a member and we offer a free First Steps membership package if you're just starting out. You can find out more about membership packages and benefits, as well as how to join, on the membership page.
