The British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships
This Championship is a part of the Modern Biathlon Series. It comprises a separate run and swim and is the culmination of a series of preliminary competitions organised throughout the country from 1st October to the 1st December. More information about this series of competitions can be found by on the Modern Biathlon Series page.
The British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships will be held on 25th & 26th March 2017 at Crystal Palace. Girls will compete on Saturday, boys will compete on Sunday.
Affiliated schools can also be represented at any pentathlon related competition. To find out more about registering as a club please have a look at our get involved pages.
Results of all the preliminary competitions held between 17th September and 1st December 2016 will be combined to create a British Ranking List.
The ranking list will be published on the website on 16th December 2016. If you are successful in qualifying, you or the person who made the entry on your behalf will receive an e-mail inviting you to formally enter for the Championships.
If you competed in more than one preliminary competition, the best combined run/swim score will be included on the rankings list. If you score the same points in two or more competitions the score with the best swim time will be used for ranking purposes.
Scores will be adjusted to that of a 50m pool (the length of pool at the Championships venue) for the ranking list as shown below.
|POOL LENGTH||200m SWIM||100m SWIM||50m SWIM|
|50m to 25m||- 2.5 seconds||- 1.1 second||- 0.5 second|
|25m to 50m||+ 2.5 seconds||+ 1.1 second||+ 0.5 second|
If you qualify for the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships but are unable to compete, please do let us know – this means we may be able to invite another athlete from the rankings list to take part.
The following number of athletes attending the Regional Biathlon Championships organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions will automatically qualify for the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships:
- The top three scoring individuals (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) in the U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 classes.
- The top scoring individual (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) in the U15, U16, U17 and U19 classes.
The following number of athletes attending a County Championship will automatically qualify for the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships:
- The top two scoring individuals (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) in the U10, U11, U12 and U13 classes.
- The top scoring individual (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) in the U14, U15, U16, U17 and U19 classes.
Other highly ranked individuals who have entered a competition organised before 1st December and have not qualified under the above criteria will be invited to participate. There isn’t a defined number of places for each class therefore additional invitees will be offered places on merit rather than their place on the rankings list.
Teams are not pre-defined. The top three scoring individuals from the same school in each class will create a team. This means that if the school has more than three individuals in a class, the best three scores will be taken on the day of the Championships. A school may have more than one team in a class.
