UIPM Laser Run City Tour - Bath
University of Bath Sports Training Village, Bath, BA2 7AY
The 2017 Laser Run season gets underway on June 4th with the 1st UIPM Laser Run City Tour event in this country taking place at the Sports Training Village within the University of Bath. A timetable and important competitors notes are attached so that you can see what time to register and the time you are competing – please take time to read the information contained within this document as well as the information below. Loan pistols are available for anybody who doesn’t have their own.
There are four designated sessions for athletes who DO NOT currently hold a valid Pentathlon GB shooting certificate to undertake a safety briefing which will include:
- The basic format of the Laser-Run event (see competitors notes)
- How to operate your loan pistol safely on the range and during the competition
- The correct shooting position
- A few common rule infringements to watch out for ie The pistol must:
- touch the shooting table in-between each shot on re-charge
- face towards the targets at all times
This is a very special occasion as the event will take place alongside the 2017 British Open Modern Pentathlon Championships which will be using the same world-class facilities. It gives all UIPM Laser-Run participants and supporters the chance to see GB’s ‘ultimate athletes’ competing in a Modern Pentathlon event, including Rio 2016 Olympians Kate French, Samantha Murray, Jamie Cooke and Joe Choong. The quartet have 1 Olympic Medal, 1 World Championship title and 6 World Cup victories between them and are amongst the world’s leading modern pentathletes.
Their timetable is attached and we would like to invite all participants and your supporters to watch the elite athletes in action (when you are not competing yourselves of course). The swim, fence and laser-run are being held at the University and the ride is about 30 minutes’ drive away at Hill House Farm, Buckland Dinham, Frome BA11 2RB. The exciting Laser-Run finale for our Pentathletes will commence at 1700 on the same range and run course that you will have competed on earlier.
Finally, if you (or your supporters) are able to help out in any way, we would love to hear from you. Our competitions and events would not exist without the support of our amazing team of volunteers that kindly give up their time to help. Volunteering is a great way to have fun, make friends and even learn new skills. If you, or any friends or family would like to join our inspiring volunteer team and help at this competition then please let me know. We need all sorts of people - from those who can staff the registration or call out the finish order at the finish line to those who can use a stopwatch so please don't be shy in coming forward.
We look forward to seeing you at the competition and hope that you all have a fantastic day.
